Reef Encounter

Reef Encounter offers the luxury facilities of a land-based resort while cruising the pristine waters of the spectacular Great Barrier Reef which makes it one of the most unique holiday escapes in Australia.

The multi-share accommodation onboard Reef Encounter offers dormitory style cabins with three bunk beds to a room. All cabins have their own ensuite. Whilst onboard you can choose from a variety of activities – from enjoying the sunset and sleeping on the reef, going snorkeling, taking your very first introductory scuba dive, becoming a certified diver with a learn to dive course or if you’re a qualified scuba diver, enjoy the amazing variety of coral and marine life in this world heritage marine habitat.

Important Information for Scuba Diving

We have a passion to show you Australia’s Great Barrier Reef so please make sure you understand the scuba diving laws.

Queensland, Australia has some of the strictest scuba diving rules in the world  but also the safest scuba diving record.   We are regulated by the Queensland Government Code of Practice and comply with all rules including medical as is the law.

To avoid disappointment on your day of travel we strongly recommend that all of our passengers complete our dive medical questionnaire prior to booking as some medical conditions, age and / or medications may prevent you from scuba diving.   It is always our mission to provide our passengers with the very best Great Barrier Reef experience.

Flying after Scuba Diving

For a single no decompression scuba dive, you should not fly or go to altitude for at least 18 hours after a scuba dive.  For multiple dives you should not fly for 24 hours after your last dive. If Skydiving or Hot Air Ballooning you must wait 24 hours after your dive. We recommend waiting a minimum 24 hours whenever possible

7:30 am Breakfast served onboard Reef Experience, Marlin Jetty “A” Finger, Cairns. Meet your Top Deck Attendant.

8:00 am Depart Marlin Jetty Marine with a Biologist Presentation Scuba Dive and Snorkel briefing enroute

9:30 am Arrive Outer Great Barrier Reef and transfer to Reef Encounter

10:30 am Water  Session – Sun bake and relax

12 Noon Buffet Lunch

1:30 pm Water Session – Relaxation time

3:00 pm Cruise to our next Outer Great Barrier Reef Location

3:30 pm Water Session – Relaxation Time

5:30 pm Sunset Cocktails

6:30 pm Dinner under the stars (weather permitting)

Tully River Whitewater Rafting

Tully River is Australia’s most famous White Water Rafting full day adventure.

An action-packed experience filled with fun, thrills, and spills on a day you will never forget.

Whitewater rafting on the Tully River is an extreme five-hour whitewater rafting adventure in a beautiful rainforest setting. Enjoy rafting on grade 3 and 4 rapids surrounded by the beauty of the rainforest.

  • 06:10 – Pickups from Northern Beaches accommodation

What to Bring

  • Secured footwear is mandatory – lace-up shoes or sandals that will get wet (limited shoe hire available at an additional cost)

  • We strongly recommend you bring an extra t-shirt or rash vest to wear under your life vest to prevent sunburn
